As Easter and Passover converge this year, Christians and Jews around the world enter sacred seasons that celebrate hope, deliverance, and new beginnings. For Christians and Jews United for Israel, this is a time to reflect not only on the spiritual meaning of our respective traditions, but also on the shared values that bind us — faith, freedom, and the enduring promise of Israel.
Easter, for Christians, marks the triumph of life over death and light over darkness. Passover, for Jews, commemorates the Exodus — the journey from slavery to freedom, from oppression to covenant. Though the holidays arise from different narratives, they both speak to a divine commitment to justice, liberation, and human dignity.
In this season of reflection, we also turn our hearts toward those who suffer for their faith. Around the world — and particularly in the Middle East — Christian communities face growing persecution. Churches are targeted, families are displaced, and the right to worship is under threat. Amid these challenges, Israel stands apart as a rare and vital refuge: a nation where freedom of religion is protected by law, and where Christian, Jewish, Muslim, and Druze communities live side by side.
In Israel, Christian holy sites are preserved and respected. Pilgrims walk freely in Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Bethlehem. Churches ring their bells and celebrate Easter in peace — a powerful contrast to the hardships faced elsewhere in the region.
This Easter and Passover, we affirm our shared commitment: to stand against religious persecution, to uphold the dignity of every faith community, and to support Israel as a beacon of freedom and sanctuary.
May this holy season bring renewed strength to the persecuted, comfort to the displaced, and unity among all who seek peace.
