Dear Friend of Israel,
July 4th 1776 is the day the Continental Congress, assembled in Philadelphia PA, formally adopted the Declaration of Independence. The declaration of freedom from tyranny was accompanied by the ringing of the bell in the tower of the Pennsylvania State House, now called Independence Hall.
The bell that rang, now known as the Liberty Bell, was cast in 1751 and is inscribed with the words from Leviticus 25:10:
“Proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof…”
For the next five years, Americans would fight for their freedom against what was the mightiest military at the time. As a result of the leadership of General George Washington, the sheer determination of American patriots, and what many believed to be divine intervention, the United States of America became a sovereign and independent nation.
Since the Revolutionary War, America has fought a number of wars for the cause of freedom, all at a terrible cost. But due to the commitment and sacrifice of freedom-loving Americans, freedom still rings loudly here, as demonstrated by the never-ending flood of people from all over the world who do whatever it takes to make it to these shores.
So too with the State of Israel. Ever since the Jewish State announced its independence in 1948, it has been involved in an ongoing fight for survival while at the same time being a beacon of light for all Jews who seek to live in a country where they are free to live as Jews. Because of our histories, experiences and shared values, America and Israel have much in common. May our two great nations continue to be close allies in the fight for all that is just and true in an increasingly dangerous world!
Christians and Jews United for Israel thanks
the United States of America
for its dedicated support of the Jewish State of Israel!
QUOTE OF THE YEAR
“When peace comes we will perhaps in time be able to forgive the Arabs for killing our sons, but it will be harder for us to forgive them for having forced us to kill their sons. Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.”
