Tonight, Jewish communities around the world begin the celebration of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. This holiday is a moment of deep spiritual reflection, rich with meaning for Jews and Christians alike.
According to Jewish tradition, Rosh Hashanah marks both the birthday of the world and the day when God sits in judgment over all creation. It is a time to reflect on the year that has passed, renew our commitment to righteousness, and pray for a year of blessing and peace.
The prayers of Rosh Hashanah center on three profound themes:
- Kingship – affirming that God is sovereign over all nations.
- Remembrance – recalling God’s faithfulness to His covenant with Israel and His enduring care for humanity.
- The Shofar – the ram’s horn that calls us to awaken spiritually, repent, and draw nearer to Him.
At CJUI, we stand with Israel and the Jewish people in this sacred season. As the shofar is sounded across synagogues around the world, we join in praying for peace in Jerusalem, strength for Israel, and a renewed spirit for all who love the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
